Reality Therapy...
Reality therapy is a cognitive behavioural model of counselling developed by the psychiatrist William Glasser and based on his ‘Choice Theory’.
The core of Reality Therapy is the idea that regardless of what has happened to us, what we may have done, or how our ‘needs’ may have been unmet or violated in the past, we can redirect our lives and choose more effective behaviours \, both today and in the future.
Whilst not as well known as Aaron Beck’s CBT which is used in the NHS, Reality Therapy is used widely in the field of addiction counselling and is a very popular method with teachers and in dealing with children. It has also been successfully applied to coaching, managing, consulting, mediation, relationships, personal development. It is a non-academic, humanistic and user-friendly style of CBT that puts you back in control of your life.
